Root Unable to root, Is your firmware too new?

I am trying to root my evo 4g, but everytime I run Unrevoked3, the message "pushing root..." sits on the screen for about a few minutes, the an error message says, "unable to root, is your firmware too new?"

Phone: Evo 4G with android 2.2 baseband version 2.15.00.11.19.
Comp: Win7 on HP Mini 311-1037NR

I have rooted this phone before, but I sent it in around Mid March 2011 because of charging issues I had with it. When I got the phone back, it was factory reset with all my settings and everything gone. I had no success rooting the phone then, but I wrote it off as the firmware really being too new. However, I have tried today, with no success, and have a really hard time believing that the firmware is indeed "too new."

Has anyone else run into these issues? I am getting pretty frustrated.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what is your hboot? power off (you may need to uncheck fastboot) then press and hold power+vol down.

if you have hboot 2.1 or less then use the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html guide

if you have 2.16 then you need to read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

try using the old method of rooting with unrevoked, since the new method is for gingerbread. http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html
