Looks like a few people have had this problem before but can't seem to find a solution? For the past few days I haven't been able to connect to wireless, I thought it would fix itself but it hasn't. When I try to turn it on it gives me the message "Unable to start Wi-Fi". Any ideas?

The phone is from Orange, I have flashed it and it has updated to the new firmware but the problem happened before the firmware updated.

It's a known issue for those that have debranded, and has been well covered in multiple threads already.

You need to reflash with a fixed debranded ROM.

Look in the OTA update thread ;)

Yeah this happened to me. I went to htcunlock.com and got an unlock code (took 20 minute, can't recommend them enough) I then flashed with the same version rom available from xda and then entered the pin unlock code. This is a "feature" of orange debranded Desire's and something to do with the updated radio version. I wish I had known about it before I accepted the update as you can't revert back to the previous version as the bootloader is updated at the same time. Anyway, there is a fix.

Please can you supply the link to this thread. I can't find the OTA update thread you quoted. Does this fixed de-branded ROM re-flash you quoted work? When I tried to re-flash recently the boot loader rom wouldn't allow me to flash with the earlier date provided by the original ROM I used.

    Are you serious?

It's a sticky thread at the top of the desire forum ;)

My guess is that if you have a phone that is not standard in any way, there is always the possibility that things may go wrong if you use an official update. It obviously can't be tested by HTC.

Best to keep an eye on this forum, and let someone else be the guinea pig!

Thankfully I took a chance and having updated the firmware my phone was OK, no WiFi issues but it was a Sim free unlocked Desire

It's the modified debrand ROM at fault.
