    Hello,

I have an unlocked S3 (unbranded from factory). I've been unable to upgrade Android since I bought the phone - it's been stuck at Android 4.0.4.

When I try to upgrade it in Kies, I get the "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies" notification. When I check for updates through the phone's settings, I always get a message saying there are no available updates.

I've never done any modifications to my phone.

How can I update Android on my phone? I'd appreciate any feedback.

Hi what carrier is the phone on? You can update it manually

Also might help to know the Model number of the S3 since it is Unbranded.

I'm on Giffgaff. However, the first three weeks when I was using the phone without a SIM card (just for browsing online via wi-fi), I was also unable to update Android like I described in the first post.

The model number is indeed i9300.

Any idea where I should go from now? Thanks!

Could try checking what your CSC is set to on the phone.

When I flashed from O2 branded to a UK unbranded ROM I had to change the CSC to BTU before Kies would recognise any updates.

Check out the flashing instructions video on Faryaab's thread over on XDA Developers. It's in there somewhere.

Warning! Changing CSC will wipe your phone.

Hi, I have the same phone, also unbranded, I updated using the following link, I hesitated at first in case I messed something up, but by printing out and following the instructions to the letter I succeeded. Give it a go, you can always revert to the stock OS if you have any problems, this takes you to Jelly Bean 4.2.2. Phil

4.2.2 is a bit buggy tbh OP. if you just want unbranded 4.1.2 you can find it on Sammobile.com.
Ill find a good guide to using Odin for you.....

Check out the Flashing Firmware With Odin part.
No rooting, wiping or anything needed and your warranty will be fine mate

Aye, best going to 4.1.2 if you just want to update and not run into any problems, 4.2.2 is a leaked build and does have issues, personally I'd go with funkylogik's advice if I were in your shoes.

If 4.2.2 does have problems they are not apparent on my phone, everything works as it should. Phil

Yea I also got rid of the 4.2.2 ... A lot of force closes and memory leaks (mainly Chrome though).
