Has anybody heard about Radio Shack going out of business? If so, I wonder who will take over for the wireless insurance. I chose to use them at $99 for 2 years for my Evo. Ironically, Radio Shack took over the extended service warranties of Circuit City (including my Samsung LCD) when Circuit City closed.

I doubt it's true but I am still amazed they have lasted this long.

    Way too many stores.
Underpaid employees with ZERO knowledge (exceptions of course)
An inventory with a whole lot of nothing.
    WAY overpriced.
Can't stay in business selling overpriced batteries.

Even when I google "Radioshack going out of business," all that comes up is some bogus article from The Onion... so I don't think it's true.

They aren't going out of business but are a buyout target for sure. If they were bought by Best Buy or someone else they would still have to honor the warranty.

I've also heard from a Shack manager that Best Buy is looking to buy RadioShack.

    So much for competition...

I am not a fan of Radio Shack, but I am a fan of competition and judging from Best Buys already high markups; acquiring Radio Shack would do nothing good for the consumer...IMO.

    "Radioshack bids in
Blackstone emerges in auction's first round By JOSH KOSMAN and JAMES COVERT
    Last Updated: 2:45 AM, June 1, 2010

An auction of RadioShack is heating up fast, with big private-equity firms including Blackstone Group squaring off against at least one potential corporate acquirer, The Post has learned.

As reported exclusively by The Post, the Texas-based electronics chain has hired Goldman Sachs to explore strategic alternatives including a possible sale of the company that could fetch more than $3 billion.
An initial round of bids was completed last week, and Blackstone is a leading participant, according to sources familiar with the matter. Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. is seen as a likely rival bidder, with private-equity shops Bain Capital and TPG also likely in the mix...."

Sounds like you're describing Best Buy, except for the batteries part. Change that to "HDMI cables"

That is not Circuit City. That is but a name, rights bought by Tiger Direct who also own the CompUSA name as well. Trusted names people know and feel comfortable buying from online since Tiger Direct didn't have the greatest name for awhile.

wall street speculation? There's one of those articles every year, and they're lucky if one or two actually come to fruition.
