Huge problem - about 1 year ago, could be less/could be more, my phone call recorder stopped working. I tried different ones, always with the same result. I have been in a few situations where I needed that feature.

Q: Are you in a country where recording is legal? A: YES! (to my surprise)
Q: What is your Android version? A: 9.

Is it Android 9 issue? Source states there is no way out of it.

Apps tried - they all records my own voice, also records the other side but ONLY when there is speakerphone enabled a.k.a voice is played loudly over the speakers:

    - https://apkpure.com/call-recorder-automatic-call-recorder/call.recorder.automatic.acr

Has anyone been in a similar situation and is capable of pointing me in the right direction? Anything helpful would be appreciated! Some .. ugh .. phone hacks? Anything?

    Best Regards

You have a Galaxy S5 on Android 9

Since the last stock Samsung firmware release for the Galaxy S5 was Android 6.0.1 in 2017 then to be on Android 9, you must have rooted your phone and installed one of the many custom ROM's.

I would therefore suggest contacting the developer of your particular ROM and seek their advice on this issue.

What exactly is "stock" in this case? "Last stock" therefore is..

"Stock", firmware is that which is provided by the phone manufacturer for a particular device.

In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S5, this was an Android 6.0.1 release back in 2017 prior to the phone reaching EoL, (End of Life... no longer supported).

There is no support for this any longer.

The speakerphone is the source of the recording, due to Android restraints on microphone useage and internal recording capabilities.

Your best bet would probably be to use an app like Dingtone, that will allow you to record your calls.
