    Hello everyone,
I am a newbie to rooting and stuff. I actually dont know how things work in my case.
I have MyTouch 3g with Tmobile service. I have recently rooted mt3g successfully with 2.1 ROM which is working great.
Now I want to unlock the sim so I can use it with other carriers too. I spoke to the tmobile rep where he agreed to unlock and took IMEI number of my phone and said he will be mailing the unlock code and instructions.

My question is, as I have overwritten the original factory settings, will that unlock code works in my code.

Even if it works, will there be any conflicts with the already installed custom rom like malfunctioning applications or something else?

    Thanks,
    Krishna.

You haven't over-written the IMEI number, that has nothing to do with rooting. Think of it as a stamped serial number on your phone; it doesn't change. Ever.

I unlocked my rooted MT3G this past spring, no problem.

I live in Japan and Docomo is my provider. They have told me that they do not support unlocking, so they won't give me a code. Would rooting my phone make it unlockable?

  5. Are you rooted? Did you accept the OTA from 1.5 to 1.6?

commercial unlock services will work for the ht-03a if and only if you have not updated to 1.6, which added another layer of security in the Docomo ROM so that the IMEI-generated unlock code won't work.

IF you are rooted, then you obviously won't have this problem and you can get an unlock code for around $15-$30 (I forget exactly what it tends to cost). DO NOT UNDER any circumstances give money to a Japanese site that claims they can unlock Docomo's stock 1.6 ROM, primarily because they are charging $100 dollars (10,000 yen) to do it

EDIT: I see you were asking if you rooted, so basically if you have 1.5 you don't have to root. If you updated to 1.6, you have to root.
