    Hello :)

I'm new here and I'm sorry if my first post is a repost!

I've bought my DHD and its orange branded.

I've contacted my carrier (vodafone) about an unlock code and I'm waiting as we speak!

I'm just wondering if me unlocking will open me to all networks?

And if so will it also be full of bloatware still?

I'm not enjoying bloatware so far so I hope not!

Thanks in advanced for your answers :)

Your unlock code will unlock the phone to be used with sim cards from any network.

However, that has no relation to the branding of the firmware and the bloatware. If you want to get rid of that, you have two options. You can either install the unbranded HTC firmware, which doesn't come with any network bloatware, or you can root the phone (permanently or temporarily) and remove the bloatware from your current firmware.

Im on 2.2.1 and isn't temprooting or even perm rooting harder now?

And which would be easier and safer? Rooting or installing normal firmware? Don't wanna go breaking my new ace phone!

If you could provide me with any guides too I'd really appreciate it!

    Thanks again :)

You'd need to get a gold card to allow your branded handset to take unbranded firmware, downgrade, then once you have the unbranded firmware, I think you should be fine to check for the OTA update to 2.3.3. However, if you've gone that far, rather than update to an official ROM, you might as well install a custom one ;)

This post gives steps and links to guides expaining what's needed.

Ah, well that kind of limits your options then, as you can't get root whilst running 2.2.1.

If you did want to root, you would have to downgrade to the unbranded 2.2 rom anyway as step number one. So I guess that settles which option is easiest! :p

Downgrading is a fancy way of saying you're installing a stock firmware from HTC, so it's no more risky than updating your phone to 2.2.1, for example.

Yeah, I would mount your current sdcard to your pc, move all of your files to somewhere safe on the desktop and format it from there. Then you can make a goldcard out of it.
