Help Unlocking HTC desire to all networks

Hey guys I was wondering if there was a way to unlock my htc desire to all networks. Like a do it at home step by step guide. All help is greatly appreciated

Alternatively, you could contact the network and just ask them to give you an unlock code: the phone is getting on for 4 years old, I'd have thought the charge would either be minimal or maybe even waived ..
