I'm an iPhone convert and I'm just loving my android experience. I have an HTC inspire 4g. The question I have is, I use the native email app and have setup my exchange account. When an email arrives it shows me the count, but after I open the application, the unread count clears and it's kind of annoying as I really can't track how many are still left. The messages are still unopened, shoudn't the count still remain?

Is there way to achieve this?

I was curious about this as well. It doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it, but I am still curious to see if there is a way to do this, preferably without rooting the phone.

Once you go into the email app and you can see the list of your messages, you'll see a blue number in the upper right hand corner. That is the number of unread messages.

Thanks for your response. But a notification like iPhone would be great. Sometimes we tend to miss out emails due to this. A bad design from google :(

Download "sms unread count" from the market place. You can configure the widget to your gmail and it will give you the number of emails like the iPhone. I have 2 gmail accounts setup and also use it for my text messages. It works great. Let me know if you have any questions.

Actually, what is a bad design is on an iPhone, you can't tell which account has a new email. You to to check each account. To me, that sucks worse...:p

I agree. I only want to know which accounts have emails since last I checked. I always have unread emails in the account which will make the count confusing.

With the unread sms count app you setup a widget for each email account, so you will know how many unread emails you have for each account that has a widget setup. I am pretty sure the number stays until you actually read the email. The widget combined with the notification bar should do a pretty good job at notifying you of new emails that have come in.
