Root Unrooted 2.1 -> 2.0 -> rooted -> 2.1 = rooted 2.1?

Hi - I'm scratching my head about this rooting business.

My Milestone has 2.1 and I'd like to root it.

As far as I can understand I can

1) Find the Android 2.0 ROM for Milestone
2) Flash back to 2.0 using RDS Lite
3) Root it
4) Upgrade to 2.1 (using RDS lite OR Motorola update) and still be rooted

Or I have to wait and see if someone makes it possible to root 2.1 directly. But this may not happen.

Any flaws with my reasoning?

Perhaps only looking in the root subforum when the 2.1 rooting howto was posted in the ordinary Milestone forum.

Actually it did not - the procedure went well, but I still cannot get root.

So I'm looking into other ways of getting there. Have anyone tried this route to root on a 2.1 Milestone?

Unrooted 2.1 -> 2.0.1 -> rooted 2.0.1 -> 2.1 = rooted 2.1?
