Root Unrooting

Hello

I'm wanting to take my Desire back to an unrooted state (giving this phone to my wife) am I correcting in thinking that following the instructions in this thread that it'll take my phone back to a stock 2.2 sense rom?

No, hboot is absolutely unrelated. It's only the software version that matters.

I thought if the release was lower it then had an older hboot, which gave the error about an older version. I haven't done it myself.so you can install any ruu as long as Android is a later version, even if it includes an older hboot?

Yes. The version of hboot is never checked and isn't ever relevant itself.

Just run the rom installer all seems fine. although very bare, cant believe how much I'd altered from the stock setup.

im takeing mine back to the unrooted state with the 2.2 ruu..
only because im sick of my phone turning off all the time. this has ony
been a problem since i rooted the phone and after varios roms and constant
trying to get it sortied i feel its better to be without a2sd+ for the sake of my sanity...
will keep you updated if this solves the problem

the ruu that was postied here fails to find the usb connection....
useing the old copy i first used: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed
runs even though it shows its an older version than curently in my phone then a quater way into the instalation i get an id error and it terminates the install

the error im getting is ERROR[131]:CUSTOMER ID ERROR
this is with the above stated ruu

That means you need a gold card as your Desire was likely to be a branded handset originally

im useing the same sd card that was used as a gold card to debrand it....
i found on xda a way to downgrade from froyo to stock 2.1
was so good that its taken it back to how it was includeing network branding,
i think it will work for all networks as it isnt specific for virgin.

Unrooting will remove everything from the phone, right?

I rooted mine using Unrevoked and thankfully, I did not have to deal with reinstalling everything. But I don't think unrooting will offer a similar degree of comfort. Am I correct?

Correct. Any use of an ruu wipes the phone. The only need to unrooted is to return it, in which case you'd wipe it anyway

cant see virgin getting any more top range phones in as they removed the desire and the galaxy s recently...
this has ment a shortage of replacement phones for nackered desire's
iv not asked about the galaxy s as i have spent

I'd like to ask a question in this thread if I may? I have rooted my Desire using unrevoked. I have not yet loaded a custom rom - still using the original rom, The phone needs to go back for a repair to the Micro USB socket so should I need to unroot in case they notice and I find the warranty invalid? will putting the phone back to factory settings do this?

No it wont.

You need to get an RUU from shipped roms and run it from a pc/

No it was not branded originally, and my problem that I cannot connect to PC because of problem with Micro USB socket. Guess I'll just have to hope that they don't notice?

You could do it another way...you'll need a card reader and micro SD adapter...

1. Download the RUU the matches your vendor code, e.g. x.xx.405.x, from shipped-roms
2. Once downloaded, start running the RUU and once you get to the first screen click Start>Run on your PC and type

3. Look for the most recent folder created in there. In this folder will be a ZIP file called Rom - copy it to the desktop
4. Once copied, close all windows and exit the RUU program
5. Rename the ROM file to PB99IMG.zip (not PB99IMG.zip.zip) and copy it to the root of your SD card (not in any folders)
6. Put the SD card back into your phone, hold volume down and press power
7. Assuming you boot into HBOOT it will find the file and ask you if you wish to start the update. Press volume up for Yes
8. Assuming it works you'll be back to stock!

Thanks EddyOS, Please be gentle as this will be the first time I have done this, the ROM which matches the phone build number is there (2.10.405.2) why do I have to rename the file to PB99IMG.zip ?
What are the chances of anything going wrong with this? (rough idea?)
would I be able to recover if anything does go wrong?
