I'm currently looking around for a new Android phone and would like to know what's coming out in March. I coud'nt really find any information on google, so I thought I should post here.

Will there be anything in the $200-$300USD price range? And if not, will the LG GT540 still be for sale in March? (phones seem to go off market pretty fast these days, so thats why im asking).

Preffered carrier is Vodafone or unlocked and the country is Australia.

LG GT540 is garbage. At best try to avoid that and get the Optimus One aka P500 instead.

I got no idea what's coming out for Australia but I can list down the international entrees for you that is expected to come out in Spring:

    Samsung
Nexus S - Vodafone is representing this in 24 countries, which is where ever it goes. There are two variations of this, the black with the Super AMOLED and the white with the SLCD.

Galaxy SII - Super phone that maybe way out of your budget.

Ace, Mini, Gio, Fit - four mid to low end models which might be your tee

i9003 aka Galaxy SL - Galaxy S with OMAP6 processor and SLCD screen intended to be cheaper but still nearly with the performance of a Galaxy S. This might also be more affordable.

    HTC
    Desire S
    Wildfire S
    Incredible S
    Cha Cha
    Salsa

The budget ones here are the Wildfire S, Cha Cha and Salsa

    LG
    Optimux 2X
    Optimus 3D

    Both are top end.

    Motorola
Motorola Pro (Droid Pro in GSM)
Milestone X (Droid X in GSM)

People should start out by telling this. It makes all the difference. Mods should make a sticky telling people asking for phone suggestions to tell what country they are in, what carrier they are on, if they are by unlocked/off-contract or if they are buying subsidized, then finally their price range and spec list.

Well, it's not a perfect world, and there's nothing wrong with asking. ;) :) After all, that's why we're here - we're all in this together.

It's often hard to know the right question or the right factors - that happens to me all of the time.

FWIW - everyone can go to Edit Your Details on your User CP page (link at top of every one of our pages) and enter their location and their current devices - but that's strictly optional. ;)

Sorry guys, I'll add that sprt of information in future posts. Is the LG GT540 really that bad? I heard it was a good startet phone. I've never had an Android phone before. I've always had Nokia.

Alot of those phones Guamguy listed are either too expensive or are unavailable on a certain carrier. All the HTC's here seem to be on Telstra (which is the worst carrier in the country), so that is not an option for me.

I'll try to have a look around for those LG's though. They seem to be the cheapest, and from what I hear, the most efficent. More ideas are certainley welcome though :)

Yes. Android 1.6 and will not be updated. Resistive touch screen.

The LG Optimus One - very different. Android 2.2 and a capacitive touch screen.

It's carried by Virgin Mobile and Optus in your part of the world. Looks like Vodafone might not have it. They do have the HTC Legend and HTC Desire HD though.

Actually the GT540 runs official 2.1 now. It had an update late last year. I think some even ship with it now. But it won't be going past 2.1 sadly.

And I've just been informed that my budget is now $200 or less. So I guess that's what I must buy. It's still a decent phone right? I hear resistive is more durable since it can't crack or smash like glass. I also heard that the GT540's resistive screen is surprisingly responsive.

Resistive is an electrical property specifying the sensing mechanism, no effect on glass toughness.

I'm just wondering if Metro Pcs is going to get anymore androids anytime soon...I'm actually kind of curious about their choices. I'm hoping to see them get a gingerbread right off the line. I know that's kind of a lot to ask but, They are going the 4G coverage route. They better have more than one android phone to support this movement! LOL

If you press on it with bare skin, it's not really responsive. But if you press on it with a hard object like a fingernail or stylus, then it is.

In any case, for that same money if you can find the Optimus One also by LG, you're better off.
