    seasky,

    Welcome to the AndroidForums!

Yeah, you can only be rooted in 2.3/Gingerbread by having been rooting in 2.2/Froyo and "carrying-forward" this root capability to Gingerbread via Droid 2/x Bootstrap and ClockworkMod recovery (i.e., by installing the pre-rooted GB files from P3droid (either the .596 or .602 versions)).

Z4root and Gingerbreak will not directly root Gingerbread on the Droid X.

Note: there is also a method of having .596 rooted GB and accepting the .602 OTA that I'm going to use later this weekend--but you still have to have been rooted in Froyo and carried that forward to GB.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers!

    Not sure what you mean...

If you are using the new .602 pre-rooted .zip files from p3droid at mydroidworld:

Official Gingerbread update 4.5.602 (rooted and ready) or Stock.

you don't take the OTA since you are installing the OTA that's been pre-rooted via ClockworkMod recovery.

Its my understanding that you would use these new .602 pre-rooted files in the same way that you used the pre-rooted .596 files using the same methods described in several threads here at AF such as

    http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/372029-tutorial-simple-sbf-upgrade-gingerbread.html

but using the pre-rooted .602 files instead of the .596 files.

Not sure if anyone has yet updated their old threads to include the .602 files since it would seem to be simple to reference using these, too.

You can also follow the instructions in colchiro's thread:

    http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/396838-simple-update-gb-602-a.html

Bear in mind that I have not yet re-rooted using the .602 files, so you'd be well-advised to get advice from those that have already rooted with the .602 release.

    Cheers!

if you want to be on .602 with root...you skip the .596 update altogether...

you're going to SBF back to Froyo...then flash the pre-rooted .602 update...
