Updates after bring your own phone Sim switch from metro to straight talk

Here's my question.... My ZTE Max pro was originally on metro, but then I switched to straight talk using a t-mobile straight talk Sim card. What I'm wondering is how do I get updates to my phone, because if I go about it the way I did when I was with metro by going to [settings-phone info-system updates] wouldn't I be then trying to get updates from a source that the phone is no longer associated with? Or does the search for updates function automatically go through straight talk because it is a straight talk Sim card? I'm just not sure if I should be looking elsewhere to download any straight talk updates because I have been having some issues with my phone and thought maybe it is because it is in need of some update it doesn't have.... Thanks....

It should on WiFi. You may have to pop in your original SIM then connect to WiFi and check.

I switched to Cricket a while back and I think I updated... I know I updated on a SGS6edge+ that has a bad IMEI. I put in the original SIM and updated to Android 7 on Walmart WiFi.

My ZMax Pro was switched from MetroPCS to T-Mobile while still on the initial firmware, and since then it's continued to receive all firmware updates like normal. Hope that info helps.
