Help Updating to 2.2 - Failing (Status 7)

Hi guys,

Did my best to google/forum search the hell out of this before posting but I can't find a definitive answer to this anywhere.

My partner has an unbranded HTC Legend Firmware version 2.1-update1

Attempting to update to 2.2 has failed numerous times.

The version I try to update to is OTA_Legend_Froyo_S_hTC_Asia_HK_CHT_3.15.708.2-2.06.708.2_P_release_160520fmzrr1asotmojs4c.zip which is the version it recommends when scanning for updates.

I have tried factory resetting/emptying cache/updating via update.zip from the recovery menu and they all fail.

All give the same error:

E: Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation Aborted

Above it spits out a lot of assert fails regarding getprop("ro.cid") but I'm unsure what that refers to.

I'm out of ideas all together... help?
