I like the Desire first smartphone have ever owned but I personally will never purchase another HTC phone all they think about is their next new model and taking your money my phone still overheats it as been back for repair and they said there was nothing wrong with it and sent it back out so here in Spain their service centre is useless the BBC watchdog's bad publicity of the company last week did not help them

It's all about dual core processors, decent memory and storage, and looks.

Galaxy s2, Motorola Atrix and HTC Sensation I think are the leaders.

With Android the rest is customizable using apps, so go with the best hardware specs and fave shape/screen

Friend got an xperia Ray which although is very much middle specs wise, is a brilliant phone.

If you like small screens and are on a budget, I recommend taking a look.

Its much faster than the desire, over double the internal memory space. Internet is blazing fast.

portrait kb is rubbish, however you can change to something like SlideIT with iphone skin and that makes phone great again.

Due to Candy bar size, the phone is one of the best looking smart phones I have ever seen.

I still have my desire but am iching for an upgrade myself, keep holding out for next gen phones with ics myself..
