I have a Rugby Pro that I'm rather fond of. It's currently running ICS (4.1.2). I understand there is way to upgrade it to Marshmallow but any attempt to download the upgrade throws me into an endless cycle of ads and polls. Is there any way to actually install the upgrade without all that superfluous BS?

Check the Rugby Pro root forum, there might be a newer custom ROM, but it's unlikely anyone's made a Marshmallow one:

Installing a different version of Android yourself requires putting whats called a custom ROM onto your phone/tablet after rooting it. The custom ROM has to be made specifically for your device, unfortunately you can't simply download any version of Android.

The root process is different for every phone, so follow instructions for your specific device. Here is more information about rooting:

There are a few sites that advertise updated Roms for older phones. Best way to tell that they are a scam is that most say you have to download the ROM in three parts then combine them. They try to get you to answer surveys to get the parts. Waste of time.
There was a few people working on custom ROM for the Rugby Pro but most abandoned development for it a couple years ago.
I think there was a halfway working version of CM10.1, lots of bugs.

Basically, don't get any ROM outside of XDA. If the link is not from the XDA forums, then I treat it as scam.
