Is it possible to get a phone to work with a "higher" SD card? For instance, a ZTE Z987 isn't supposed to accept higher than a 32 GB, but it's been rumored that it actually could be "forced" to run a 64 or even higher. Can this be done? If it can, how is it done and what are the consequences?

Many older and/or cheap devices just can't use larger than 32GB SDs. It's not a question of "force", it's simply the fact the hardware just doesn't support them. Sure you can try inserting a 64GB or higher XC type into a phone that's only stated to support up to 32GB HC type. You might be lucky with a ZTE Z987 and the manufacturer hasn't documented the fact it supports them, or it just won't work, won't use the full capacity or will have problems. And even if it does work, don't expect ZTE to support it, you're on your own, and depending on the rumours.
