A colleague of mine has the s2 and I've had a good play with it prior to purchasing my HTC. I found it to be too plastic. It has an almost comic sans font that just drove me nuts, on top of being really square and awkward in my hands. The sensation that I now have, which in NZ was a lot more than the S2 just feels right. IMO I'd go for the sensation, the S2 feels like it was made for kids.

SGS2 is slightly faster in benchmarks but in the real world difference is very minimal (i don't own both but have played quite a bit with the S2)

Chipset in the SGS2 is a little better suited to gaming although i can't say the HTC has ever felt like it has lacked in comparison in any games i've played

As above, the S2 feels very cheap/plasticky in comparison with the HTC and the software is worlds apart. Touchwiz is too simplistic and too iPhone-esque for my liking though i am probably a little biased having owned two Sense running HTC's :)

My personal choice between the two would be (and was) the Sensation but if it were me buying i'd be waiting to see what's announced at CES and MWC early next year

I'm pretty set on HTC sensation. I like the sense UI.
The thing is there always will be a better phone coming out in the next 3-4 months. if i keep waiting, i would never be able to buy a phone.

    thanks

Good choice, get it rooted and get a custom ROM on it, you'll not regret it!

Bug fixes, speed enhancements, ability to overclock the processor/GPU, lots of little tweaks etc.

I don't think you will regret getting the Sensation. I had almost decided on the SGS2, but I had a play with both at the same time just before I placed my order - there really was no comparison - the HTC felt miles better in the hand and the Sense UI great.

I've been extremely pleased with mine.

I love my Sensation, its chunkier and feels better built than the S2 (which my girlfriend has).

The S2 in general is much snappier zipping around apps on the phone, this might be because of the GPU or it might be that TouchWiz is faster than Sense. As a result of the GPU the benchmarks on an S2 will deffo eat a Sensation for breakfast so take that into account if you play games on your phone (I don't), the S2 also has more available memory.

I still prefer the Sensation though, the S2 feels like it would snap if I put it in in my pocket and you will laugh at the battery cover....i've seen thicker condoms :p

Does Sensation have a better battery life than the iphone 4/4s?

I am new to Android and got a Sensation a month ago. Its great as long as you don't want to make phone calls. It's slow to dial and the call quality is abysmal. Battery life is poor despite Anker batteries although these are an improvement on the one it comes with. I regret upgrading from my Blackberry which fortunately is not affiliated to Google whom I don't trust from a privacy point of view.

Sounds like you may have got a dud phone. Call quality is fine here (perhaps your network more than the phone?) and even before i rooted the phone it would last me a day - unplugging at 7am and plugging back in before i went to bed around 11pm, with quite a lot of texting, a few calls, facebook/twitter syncing and some internet browsing on a typical day.

Now i'm rooted i typically have around 40% battery left when i plug in at night.

I wondered if I have a dud phone. It's not the network as in car bluetooth is fine. My son's desire has similar call quality and he's never complained about it but when he tried my BB he says it was far superior. The battery from Anker is much better but I could get 5 days out of my BB. The battery does last longer than a day now. All in all I guess Android is not for me.

I regularly get 48 hours with an Anker and have done 70 hours with light use, maybe you do have a dud phone?

I've been a loyal BB user for the last 7 years and in September reluctantly switched to Android for a variety of reasons. It's not really fair to compare the two when it comes to battery life though as the Sensation's screen eats battery compared to the tiny BB screen.

I'll be honest though, BB is still the superior device from a technical point of view, if only they had produced faster phones with more RAM and bigger screens I would have stuck with them, also their browser is lame compared to Droid. BB also suffered from having too many varieties of their OS for people to develop for so the app choice would never be the same as Android or iOS.

In other words, BlackBerry is flawed in every way if you take away it's email and BBM services :p

    Hi

THanks for your reply. You are correct about the screen etc. The sensation has more in its favour in those respects. There are few apps that I use and find games pointless. THe phone is really a workhorse for business so is mainly used for calls and a few emails. The call quality is no different to my son's Desire so I was thinking its poor quality internal speakers. Some nights when I cant sleep I play an audiobook through the phone speaker. I only use my BB for that now as the Sensation speaker is very "tinny".

    Cheers

Agreed, HTC really do skimp when it comes to the loud speaker! This has been a gripe of mine since my Desire!

Same here, but I also have to admit that SGS 2 looks like a toy. Anyway sgs 2 is to light and doesnt fit my hand.
