Welcome to the forum, also you might want to try this out,

How to get your phone into Safe Mode
    Turn the phone off
    Power the phone back on
When it vibrates, press and hold the left menu button until it boots up and says SAFE MODE in the bottom left corner of the screen

    or this,

    Try this method:

    1. Download the newest FlashTool
    2. Download the 1.6 firmware
    3. Rename the boot.sin to kernel.sin
    4. Flash the 1.6 firmware with FlashTool (the exclamation mark remains)
    5. Update the phone with SEUS

Thank you for the reply, however safe mode does not seem to be working either must I hold the button after the initial vibration when I power on or the second after the SE logo also what would safe mode allow me to do?

and by flashing the 1.6 software and then updating with seus this would put me back on my current software would it not? Can you explain in more detail please, thank you in advance

Is there a hardware volume down button on that phone? Thats what I hold down on my DHD as I power it up to get it into recovery mode.
