Second time I heard of this. Try plugging in your phone to a USB port mount, it then unmount. Disconnect it from the USB port.

This just started happening to me today as well. I had never plugged it into a computer before, just wall chargers.

I tried your suggestion and plugged it into a USB cable in my Windows 7 PC. It downloaded several drivers and I could see the phone contents. Plugged it back into the AC charger and the MTP-Connected icon came back.

I wonder if there was some kind of system download today?!?

Well i went to the sprint studio downtown and the tech there took the phone apart. sat and watched the tear down, the ep touch looks like its difficult to open... Took him more than a few minutes to get apart. Well he couldn't find anything wrong so he cleaned the usb port with contact cleaner and put the phone back together been working ever since. fingers crossed that the solution was that simple

How was this impacting the phone?
I've seen it but have not noticed any performance issues.

I haven't noticed any performance issues, but I would still like to know what made it start, how to stop it, and how to keep it from happening again.
