Help USB Storage

I just wanted to know what the USB storage on my phone is. I have internal storage and sd card and then there is a USB storage that is about 12 gb. What is that. Is that internal storage on the phone or something or... ???

Maybe I should explain more. While going through this new phone and all it's options I found myself in a place in the settings area of the phone called storage. Under this heading it has 3 places. They are :

Internal Storage - which lists: total space, apps and available.
USB Storage - which lists: total space, apps, pictures, videos, audio, downloads, misc, available
SD Card - which lists: total space, available

What is the USB storage all about. ???
