The google search bar at the bottom of the home screen brings up a browser similar to chrome, but without all the features. The key feature chrome has that it doesn't have is "Search Tools", which allows you to use the extremely useful "Any time, Past Hour, Past 24 Hrs, Past Week, Past Month, Past Year" feature.
Is there anyway, to get the default search bar to use Chrome instead of whatever lite browser it uses as a default?

there is a separate chrome widget where you can have the chrome search bar instead.....i would use that rather then the google search widget.

It just seems that the google search bar probably allows you to type in questions to the assistant as well. Not sure if chrome search bar would allow that and whether you would lose functionality by switching out the google search bar.
Google needs to just use the chrome browser instead of some weird lite browser that pops up when it thinks you want to search the internet.

they are two different things. one is the google app and the other is there browser.

you can have both widgets up on the same screen and not loose any functionality on both. you can also in the google app allow to open any web links using the chrome browser.

"you can also in the google app allow to open any web links using the chrome browser."

how do you do that? Bc by default it uses its own lite browser.

inside the google app under settings | general | "open web pages in the app" is switched to off. But it still opens search results in the google app anyway.

"stay in the google app when you open search results or stories from the feed"

Am I reading this wrong? According to what it says, it shouldn't be opening search results in the google app if this is switched off

looks like the "search tools" are only available for the Google app beta version right now.

UPDATE: I joined the beta Google app, it didn't add the "search tools".
As of now, 1/12/21, there's still no way to have "search tools" added to Google add searches.

This is really frustrating bc, as pixel users, we often use the google search bar at the bottom of the home screen for google searches instead of opening up chrome, and then quickly remember that there is no "search options" so we aren't able to use the "Any time | Past hour | Past 24 hrs | Past week | Past month | Past Year | Custom".
I find the need for time based searches very often. Especially when dealing with news matters. Or even movies, etc that have come out in the past year, etc.
