Well I just got the hero today and i have a few questions/concerns

    • When downloading apps do you have to be connected to wifi because i am not and it seems to be taking forever to download apps.
    • Also wanted to know is there any to delete the duplicates contacts without having to go one by one.
    • Also why doesnt all my contact pictures show any help will do.
    • Also like to know how to sync my contacts with facebook i think it only did some but not all. I hope i am not asking too many questions this is a big change from my palm pre i love the pre ut was way too buggy and i was working on my 4th device. Thanks in advance if u have any inout or advice feel free to share. for got to add whats is hotsync i try to find it but didnt see it in my device.:)

I use 3G and mine is fine, downloads most apps in a few seconds, depends on your data connection I suppose

This I found a pain too, I ended up deleting all and then re syncing my phone with outlook and ensuring that contacts were not duplicated in Outlok

If you goto the individual cotact and edit the profile you can add a link to Facebook to get photo's from FB if thats what your asking?

or are you saying you have lost photos from your old contacts?

Hotsync or HTCSync if you need HTC Sync its on your SD card but it might not be the latest version, best to download it from the HTC website

If you goto people in your Hero then select updates and events and hit menu update it will update your FB contacts if it finds a match

    Regarding the duplicate contacts...

If your loading them from Google (Gmail), they just released a Find Duplicates in Gmail contacts. So you can go on your computer and merge the dups that way then they should be automatically removed from the Hero.

I am also a former Pre owner who is now trying the HTC Hero. I, too, missed the easy way in which the Pre found all duplicate contacts and combined them into one, regardless of whether they were Google, phone, Facebook, etc. contacts.

To remove duplicates and combine them on the Hero, I ended up using the Google Gmail Contacts feature recommended above. I told the Hero to synch all my contacts with Gmail, then logged in to Gmail on my computer and used the feature that lets you select and combine contacts into one. Not as nice as the Pre in this case...but at least it was possible.

If it wasn't for the Pre screen cracking and other inital bugs with the hardware build, I would have stayed with it. I've had the Hero for a few days...it's nice, but Palm's WebOS is definitely more refined and smoother to use than Android/HTC Sense in most respects. I'll probably go back if they come out with a Pre2 that's got better build quality.
