Help User Guide warning about chargers and cables

I just got myself a galaxy S after my desire died on me and noticed that the user guide states that the battery can explode if a charger or cable that is not samsung approved is used.

Is this true or just another way to make customers buy their own accessories?

Can I use my HTC main charger and usb cable? I also have a generic microusb cable i used to use with the desire.

seems odd that a simple usb cable have any bearing on the voltage and current

It's the usual con - I've used other usb leads and charges with no trouble at all. I bet they tell you only to use Samsung headphones too ( I never actually read the manual )
