using phone as a modem to connect to internet?

I have a my touch 3G slide and I have been trying to figure out how to use my phone as a modem so I can hook up my laptop to the internet. I have tried the proxoid app and easy tether, but cannot figure out how to use them/install drivers. Can someone please help.

How about Android's built-in hotspot feature (in Settings > Wireless and Network Settings > Settings for Portable WiFi hotspot > Configure WiFi Hotspot)? Nothing to install. It's already there!

if you're rooted then you can use this app Wireless Tether for Root Users

just download from browser on you're phone and install or download from pc and save file onto phone and use file manager to install app

I down loaded pdanet works great for me. I use the ENABLE BLUETOOTH DUN you need to sync the computer with your phone first. put the phone and computer in discoverable mode if you want to do this wireless
