Is there a way to use the Droid phone without accessing the internet? I am sailing in Belize next week and don't want to be paying data charges for constant internet. If I put in airplane mode, I don't have a phone. Any suggestions??

I set mine to not use data when roaming..

Settings > wireless controls > mobile network settings > data roaming

This is on my HTC Magic.

One more question...is the text messaging function on Droid an internet function or a phone function like on other phones? Will I have to have my data/internet connected to access the text function?

Phone function. Are your sure your droid will even work there? Most of the world uses GSM and verizon uses CDMA, and even IF they use CDMA, it has to be on the right bands....

Yes, I checked with Verizon and the Droid will work on the CDMA network and Belize is on that network.

To be 100% sure, you can call your carrier and ask them to block data when roaming as well. That way you don't have to worry about forgetting it later ;)

IIRC there's some APN app that you can use to block data usage.

Unless you use the GV app for SMS.
