My new Evo should be on my doorstep within the hour. I am presently using a Sprint/Nextel BB 8350i, and have an 8 gb sd card with almost 600 songs on it in the BB. Can i just swap the cards when I get the phone and retain the music files that way without having to transfer them to a new card?

I don't see a reason why you couldn't do this. My only recommendation would be to see what the folder structure of the EVOs sd card is and duplicate it on the one coming from your BB.

Agreed, I would copy it all to your PC 1st, then put in the SD card and see if it works. If not, let the EVO format the SD card and then copy your songs/data back to the EVO/SD.

I think he is trying to avoid transferring any files.
