I'm getting my Inc tomorrow but plan to try it out a few days/weeks before porting over my number from AT&T, just in case there are some deal breaker suprises.

Anyways, is there anything special I need to do with setting up the phone? When the number ports over, will I need to setup my apps and sync again?

Would it be better to do a full reset when I port?

I too didn't want to port my number until I was confident the Incredible was good enough to replace my iPhone. Here's what I did:

    Step 1: Ordered Incredible online
Step 2: Incredible arrived, setup my computer, synced my media...decided to kick the iphone to the curb, more especially AT&T
Step 3: Called Verizon @ (800) 922-0204, provided them my AT&T cell number (the one to port) and account number.
Step 4: Even though I was told the process may take 24 hours, I was successfully ported within 15 mins!

No, you don't have to sync or reinstall apps :)
