Download | Mangler | A Ventrilo Compatible Client for Linux
works pretty well!!
nvm sorry waste of time stupid question lol
the android one, says 1.5-2.2
SICK! it works ty dude
Definitely pleased. Works on both wifi and 3g on my Moto Droid. Will test it at work tomorrow with the crap signal there and report back.
Some sort of VOIP? I read the site, but am still a little confused.
I just read more of the home page there and it just uses a lot of jargon which I haven't heard before. I know it's VOIP but it talks about servers and linux and stuff. Sorry, I don't know if I can use it or not.
Ventrilo is a popular voip service for gamers.
But it's VOIP, so voice over wifi or 3g? Similar to what sipdroid offers?
Ventrilo is not VOIP in the sense you are thinking. It is merely proprietary that utilizes the VOIP platform to allow people to talk to each other while playing games or whatever at their computer. You can't use it to make direct calls or anything, it just allows you to log onto a Ventrilo server and talk to whoever is on that same server at the same time.
I dunno if you ever heard of Teamspeak.. but it's basically the same thing. The app for the phone just means 1 less program I have to worry about running on my desktop while gaming, so that's pretty cool.
Popular with the WoW folks.
Thanks so much shadowtech. I have no use for it then. I've never had sipdroid running great, so I was hoping this was a replacement for it.
Hopefully someone comes out with a TeamSpeak one....
Continued testing at work today. A little spotty when I lost 3g, but stayed connected to the Ventrilo server. Other people on the server reported that I was lagging slightly, but not too bad. Beyond that, the only things I have noticed so far that could use a little bit of improvement is the ability to use a bluetooth headset for talking, and the ability to mute local audio of another user on the server (the server I frequent has a person that has a horrible singing voice, but will not shut up). Since this is still in its Alpha testing stage, the quality in my eyes is mindblowing. In fact, a co-worker said it sounds better than the official Ventrilo client for Mac.
you need a stereo bluetooth for this to work.
Thanks for that heads up, should be getting a stereo BT in a day or two. The volume per user item I previously mentioned was taken care of in the latest build.
there was a new version release?
oh nvm they took alpha 2 down cause it was messed up
Works really well, but you need to use headphones of you'll start echoing. Theres also a vent client on market now.
What's the one on the market callwd
Nothing comes up on a search for ventrilo in market. Will be giving mangler a try though
thx i use vent 4 gw and this means I will not have 2 run vent on a second box
i wanted to say thank you. I havent tried this yet, as my dInc is still backordered, but i really wanted a vent app.
