I was on my second Eris and still having problems. I have been experiencing all of the same issues that other users on this forum have noted. I went into my local verizon store today to try replacing the battery - again - hoping this would make my phone work correctly and the assistant manager allowed me to trade my Eris for another phone. She gave me the choice between the Motorola Droid and the LG Ally.

After spending a good bit of time playing with both phones, I chose the Motorola Droid. I wanted to go with a phone that had been out for a while and that had pretty much good reviews across the board. I was very skeptical to try a new phone after the issues I had with the Eris.

After just a few hours of playing with and operating this phone, I have to say I LOVE it! I now have 3-4 bars of power - I had 0 to 1 bar on a regular basis with my Eris - and the Motorola Droid is FAST. It is a bit large and "bulky" feeling, but no more so than my daughers Itouch. The graphics are fantastic as is the camera..which has a flash!

I feel like I have everything I want since this is still a droid operating system and Motorola has added some nice touches to this phone. I do think HTC makes great phones, I just did not have a good experience with my Eris.

Good Luck to anyone trying to switch their Eris for another phone....and congratulations to everyone with Eris phones that have always worked.

Seems that lots of folks are able to switch their phones to the Droid or Ally. I'm about to lose root and would rather go with the Moto Droid than to have to replace my rooted phone with a non root.

Hmmmm, I wonder what feelings are about the ally? I am also waiting for the update to see if it fixes anything? At this point I just want something that won't lag when I do ANYTHING.

    Sorry...explanation sure helps.

I am having the issue in which my phone is scrolling to the left when plugged in and slowly beginning to do the same when unplugged. It is a common issue on here, and there is no fix other than to have the phone replaced. When it is replaced, I will get bootloader 1.49 S-On, thus losing the ability to root my phone. :(

In my experience, the rooted Eris was a completely different phone. There was no more lag when I overclocked it and the bloatware was taken out. I just don't think that I can go back to a regular Eris. It's THAT different.

    alprazolam,

You've seen the new threads about the new root method, right? You've got another weapon in your arsenal now...

By the way, I assume the scrolling issue is related to the trackball, right? I almost never use mine except for taking pictures...could you just pop it out? Just curious...

I did this also, on Saturday. Wasn't offered as easily, had to fight for it. Suppose to get here tomorrow. Seems as if lately VZ has been offering them to eris owners. Must have given up on eris. I'm hoping i will like moto as much as you.

Yes! I haven't been around as much and just came across the new root thread. Could it be that life has been breathed back into my precious Eris? Next question is this. Yes...crazy...I still have my new phone that I didn't send back to Verizon. It's been a month or two. Yeah...slack...so anyway...do you think that they'll let me just send back my messed up refurb and keep my old (new) phone that I didn't send back in?

I believe that the issue with my refurb is that HTC did poor design by putting the charging port too close to the trackball. I rarely use the trackball either, however when I plug in a cord to my phone, any movement of the cord causes the cursor on my phone screen to begin moving erratically as if I am moving the trackball.

lol! Whoa, nellie, pop one of those little pink things! :D

Don't know about the refurb swap...going through this now with my daughter's Env Touch... VZW reminded me to make sure we send back the broken on (very large dog chewed her phone ).

If this were me, I might use something (silicone, rubber cement?) to lock the trackball in place but still allow me to press it (not advocating this...but it might keep the trackball from wandering and still let you push it down). I'm sure there's downsides to doing this, but a tiny bit might work...

Might want to a wait a few days and see if any folks run into any issues, but it looks very promising... Good luck!

I got a rep on the phone to agree to give me a brand new Ally for my wife's line. First he sent it to the wrong address, then it came to the right address and we were at work, so we had to go pick it up at the fed ex facility an hour away. I get all the way there to find he sent me a refurb with no battery, no cover and no charger. I called up furious and the rep said he would place the order for a brand new one and apologized.

I am on my second eris and it is the same if not worse than my first one. The vibration mechanism just died on my about an hour ago, and wont vibrate anymore. The touch sensitive buttons sometimes do not respond, still laggs, and i have the same bugs I had on my first Eris. I am going to go back to the store on Thursday to complain again. Hopefully they offer me another device because I am REALLY starting to get pissed off.

OK so I am on my 3rd Eris and I have quite a few problems with it. calling takes about 3 min and then I cant call anyone for like 5 min or my phone freaks out, scrolling to the left. things like that.

So anyway I want to talk to verizon about switching to the droid or something else and I was just wondering what everyone said to get the new phone. thank you for your time

I just went into my local verizon store and spoke with a CSR about my problems on my 3rd eris, after getting another refurb from the back which also had 2.1 on it he told mt that there is nothing that they can do besides give me the replacement. I asked if I could switch for a different phone and he said that there IS NO WAY that I could do that.

So do you guys think the best route would be to continue to call tech support and see if they will give me a different phone? This is very frustrating!!!!!

From reading the accounts on this forum, I suspect that the easiest way to get a different phone as a replacement is actually to NOT ask for one. Also avoid saying "it's your policy", and don't talk about what you read on a forum. Just be polite, but be firm about the fact that you can't have a non-working phone. And make sure they note it on your account every time that you have a problem with your phone, and what steps were taken to resolve that problem (factory reset, refurbished replacement, etc). Eventually they will OFFER you a different phone.

For me, calling seemed to work and was easier. Where I live, the reps in the store seem as if they don't give a crap about your phone or making you a satisfied customer. Like they just work there for the money. Just call and call and call and call again until you get a rep/tech who is cool and willing to switch you to another device. (warning: you'll get many "that's not our policy anymore.")
