I was told by a Verizon insider that the whole 4G system had to be re programmed in order to get the Samsungs to work properly hence the national outage and system shut down. Call Verizon and complain they refunded me half of my calling plan for the month. ;)

So they waited for the day before the launch of the Samsung Charge to make these changes.

    Don't believe everything you hear...

and half of your calling plan? Hard to believe considering we lost about $1 worth of data service. But good for you if that's correct.

You probably right but he did say "Calling Plan" and not "Data Plan".

Really doesn't matter, good for him either way. For me, its too minor of an issue to request a discount... unless of course this starts to happen often.

I'd say it's not really just a matter of prorating your 30 day service and refunding 1 day's worth of service. If you're trying to download files, or stream videos, to me the frustration of no or slow connection and no communication from a COMMUNICATIONS company that there is a data outage, that warrants 1/2 of a month's worth of data charges. I did a reset, drove to my local verizon store to find out if my phone was defective, I say my time should be taken into consideration. If these large companies aren't held accountable then they'll continue to provide crappy service.

i agree, this would have been figured out a while ago, not the day before the release. They have testers for a reason....

Not sure I believe the "insider," but I sure do like it when people blame Samsung phones. Cause Samsung phones are not good.

or maybe it has something to do with the 100 tornadoes in the past week. But then again, the weather channel is a bad source of info.

Your "source" is probably a retail moron or customer service idiot. It had nothing to do with the samsung charge or "reprogramming" for anything.

If you don't learn to search the internet for 5 seconds before running on a trip to the store over a defective phone then it's your own fault that your time was wasted. Verizon should have notified customers, but it is kind of hard to know exactly who is effected and notify everyone properly, thunderbolt owners make up a super small percentage of verizon's users, less than 1%, and not all of them are even in a 4g area. It would just be too complicated to notify people in any proper way without notifying way more people than necessary.

Are there really people going into a bitch fit over 1 days worth of service? Really? $1?! I'll give you a dollar to be quiet. Shit happens and if this is how you deal with it then you need to grow up

While I agree it isn't much to complain about, but who are we to decide what people complain about? If someone calls and complains about it and gets a discount on their bill more power to them. To me, it wasn't a big deal and it didn't bother me. To some I could see how it was, some use their phone non stop for work, could be traveling and need business information and then couldn't get whatever they needed.

Also maybe his phone was his only source of internet to search on and he didn't have access, thus driving to the store....:D

    LOL

Well, since I don't live in a 4g area I just switched to EVDO Rev. A for the day. Tonight I'll switch it back using ##778#

As for the $1 worth of service, technically we all still had access to data just at a slower rate. Since my wife and I are on the 139.99 family promo plan my Data is even cheaper than that so I can't complain much at all.

End of the day PSN has the biggest black eye of the week and Verizon is still notorious for their amazing network. Considering that they are rolling out 3g eHRPD and LTE I'm surprised that this is their first major hiccup. I work in IT and I'd say that this has been a pretty smooth roll-out until now.

Getting a discount from Verizon is awesome. I agree more power to him if he can get VZW to comp him beyond his damages. Personally I won't make a big deal over it, I have to many other things to bitch about like JC Penny taking over 6 weeks to get my custom blinds delivered.

I'm not taking sides - I understand why people are upset and I agree some people are overreacting. But to play Devil's Advocate, do you think people who couldn't make business calls or whose car broke down or who didn't get the call that their mother was admitted to the E.R. thought that day of service was only worth $1?

    Just sayin'

Uhhhhh... You're paying for reliability, not minutes and megabytes.

If my T1 goes at work you can bet I'm gonna get a whole hell of a lot more than the prorated time off my bill. And for that reason, it very rarely goes down.

And I guess I'll keep any ways to get discounts on your bill to myself, if people are just gonna bitch when you try to help them out.

Definitely do pay for minutes. Go over your limit and see really how much you pay. You can have 99% reliability and still pay for every minute used.

Since when during this outage could people not make or receive voice calls? I was doing it all day during the "outage". Am I missing something?

The only thing that went down at all was 4G and for some 3G(There were ways for anyone to re-enable 3G if they really wanted it that bad). Voice was in service the entire time for all as was 1X data.

But phone service wasn't disrupted. So your point isn't valid. It only affected the data side and if you did the fix then you would of had 3g service again. So I agree with the captain that people over reacted.

But nowadays, internet access is the need. Thats why we spent $250 to get a massive, battery-life hogging phone. To get fast data.

You could still be stuck if you were trying to use navigation to get to a hospital. Or needed to look something up that was critical for business or personal use. Hence the need to purchase the supposedly ultrafast data with the Thunderbolt.

I can understand growing pains, but I can also understand that when a service provider fails to provide the expected service, they make amends.

Except we were able to do that all just fine before we had cell phones. Look I understand that people get up set when services they are paying for get disrupted (I frequent the World of Warcraft forums enough to know about QQ). However a little perspective here goes a long way. Also internet access is far from a need.

What was interupted was LTE service, this is not even close to a need for anyone. There was no disruption in phone service and 3G was very easily obtainable if you did a quick google search (which you could indeed do from your phone, just not as fast).

No ones lives were put in danger by this, nor was there any emergency that could have been averted if LTE was available. Even if the voice radio were down you would still have 911 access. So yes while it was an inconvence in the grand scheme of things this wasn't even a 1 on the scale of something to get worked up over.

I would think that the people in the South who have been without power (and some homes) for days and what might be weeks would say that people flipping out about losing LTE for a day are being just a little over dramatic.
