This is probably a stupid question but do I have to lock the phone and unroot to get a new Sim card activated? I got a new device and transferred the Sim from my Nexus to it, my wife wants the Nexus on her line, when I go to Verizon to get a new Sim is it OK that it's unlocked and rooted?

Not really answering your question but when I transferred lines from my Bionic to my Nexus, the Bionic was rooted. Got a new SIM for it (for my wife) and a new one for my new Nexus. No problems with the Bionic with a new SIM while being rooted and ROM'd.
Believe all you need to do is format your data signal and you're ready to go.
