I've Googled this in the past, but really nervous to actually take the step to moving to a custom ROM.

Do either of you have any advice for a true newbie on steps to do this?

It is usually very simple on a Nexus device. I'd wait until Jb drops so you can just follow steps for that. FWIW I have mostly run the stock software. I only went the custom route as my Nexus 7 came with JB and I wanted some consistency between the two.

I haven't been able to try on this version on WiFi yet (stuck at work), but when I forced the 4.04 update I only had to wipe data on Google Services Framework.

If I have the Zip file downloaded from the leak a few weeks ago, how would I get that onto the phone? Do I need to install an app that will help me use that file or is there a method I can do on the phone?

I had to do both for the ICS update. I expect it will be the same for JB.

I'm not 100% sure as I haven't done it without having root. I think you have to have a custom recovery or have adb set up. Maybe someone else can chime in.

I miss my OGD when it came to these updates. Just put the update.zip at the root folder level, restart, and pull up the boot menu. done!

I tried it every way I could. Still no go. I hate being impatient. I'll keep trying until I leave.

At this point I'd wait for the OTA then if I wasn't unlocked already.

Of course as I was typing that previous message, my project lead came in and had some questions so I couldn't start the install right away, so now I'm delayed by a whole 5 minutes! It's applying it now, has the android with it's innards spinning .

Looking forward to this, I've been using JB on my nexus 7. It will be nice to have google now on a device I have with me most of the time. The traffic updates in particular to/from work will be awesome.

    happy friday all!

I forced pulled it today around noon when I saw the news hit the internet.
Took me about 10 tries on wi-fi and it started downloading. 20 minutes later I was rock'n some Jelly Bean.

    Congrats maineultraclas:thumbup:

This one seems to be going way more smoothly than the 4.04 rollout did.
