Awesome!!! Those on Verizon have waited long enough... grats guys!!!
This is kinda what I did when I got my GSM G-Nex. I wanted to have a nand of stock JB instead of stock ICS.
For what it's worth, I just got the "trick" to work here in Maryland after about 15 tries...
... I concede that it may be pushing coincidence.
Been trying this force stop method for around 24hrs now sporadically throughout the day. Doesn't seem to work.
Anyone else in the NYC area able to get it to download?
I just got it
Try doing the "trick", but don't check for an update for another half hour
it's the biggest placebo...
people are trying the 'trick' non-stop for 28 hours and then it finally works because their number is up and then they say: "see I told you it works"
i'm in the nyc area...
havent pulled it yet.
Except that isn't true for most people. I tried a ton last night. This morning (many hours later) I tried 3 times and BAM.
I think the servers only allow a certain number of updates at a time. They are very busy , which is why it takes a while for it to work sometimes. Since prior updates have taken 10-14 days to complete, it seems the methd seems to work
I tried the force close/clear cache trick about a dozen times but got nothing. Said screw it and decided to just wait for VZW to push it to my phone.
That lasted about 30 seconds before I had to try it one more time. Bingo! Downloading Jelly Bean now!
Skeptics, stop your doubting. I did mine this morning with nine tries. I just now told my wife to bring me hers. It worked on the fourth try.
That must have been nice. I just passed 150 tries in the last 30 hours (with ten right in a row just now) and no go.
It's all by chance folks. Guarantee you.
I agree, it either works, or it doesn't. this business of 150 tries before it works is nonsensical.
Are you still getting the Android lying down with the red exclamation triangle over him? I used to get that too, I'm not sure why, but the problem is the stock recovery.
If you're rooted, get Scary Alien's root toolkit app, use the "Flash a Custom Recovery" option, and select CWM (standard) 126.96.36.199 (don't use the 188.8.131.52 - there's another thread on here saying it has problems).
Then move the OTA update file to your SD card, then reboot into recovery mode, and use the option to install from SD card.
If you're not rooted, then I guess that might not have had anyhing to do with why I ended up with the red triangle on stock recovery.
That just means you're doing it wrong
No update for mine yet
Since I was at work yesterday and couldn't get on wifi, and I'm not that patient, I downloaded the update using the link on Droid-Life, and installed it, using CWM184.108.40.206. The article mentions its an update from IMM76Q, and the file itself has JRO030-from-IMM76Q in its name, but I was on IMM76K, so I'm not sure I would have received the OTA anyway.
The article also has the download to update to IMM76Q if you need to do so first. I then used Scary Alien's root toolkit to restore root (after each update).
alright to all those people say it a coincidence. I say its not. I searched for the update without doing the force close. then did the force close and it worked 1st attempt right after. I will say that i have done this throughout the day. good luck to the rest of you. I'm in NYC.
I am in nyc too and have been trying this every which way since yesterday and no luck. it's a coincidence.
so in the second between i checked and force closed my number was called. it might be. i still would try it.
I've been trying the 4-steps since last night. It could be your number was up and ready and you just needed to do the steps to initiate the install. My phone number may not be up yet as I have tried every 30 minutes today for the last 6.5 hours.
Hi, since you said you are also in NYC, I did do the trick right after I replied to your post and nada... it's a bitch for sure. what an idiotic way to update a phone. really don't you guys agree that this is poorly executed. Why not offer us options. for example VZW officially make the update available on their site, we download it either on the computer or on the phone directly and then follow simple instructions in how to execute. my old windows phone from VZW used to update in that way.
I think the rolled execution probably works best to ensure proper download and installation. A coworker of mine spent 4 hours updating his ipad and 6 hours updating his iphone when io6 was released.
Got mine yesterday and I'm blown away by how smooth Butter is, I can't even get the damn thing to lag no matter how hard I try! And my radios work perfect finally along with amazing battery time. Normally updates bring me headaches but this one was superb and very welcome.
