I am currently on Verizon....sch1535 rooted, unlocked bootloader and have done a cwmodbackup.
I have never flashed a rom.
I guess I don't want to accept the over the air update but haven't figured out how to get the new rom and get it on the phone.
Help?

You can't. Verizon has changed the signature keys on the update so as of right now it's not possible to get the update unless you OTA.

that's odd because i got the stock OTA in a flashable ZIP from a thread on XDA that works perfectly fine on rooted phones running the stock TouchWiz ROM and have custom recoveries installed. it's the custom recoveries that won't do OTA. the update will download but will abort when trying to install afterwards. to OTA a rooted phone you need a ROM that's the same thing but flashable in a custom recovery. IIRC the rooted version only removes KNOX and is de-odexed (don't ask what that last one means. i don't even know either)

I'm in a similar situation (SCH I535, Android 4.1.2, rooted and CWM recovery). In order to get the 4.3 update, would it be easier/safer to just unroot, flash the OTA update, then re-root?

The easier method would be to check out the link that lexluthor provided or find another 4.3 custom rom. I believe CM has a rom based on 4.3.

If you unroot, take the OTA to 4.3, it includes a bootloader with Knox security that, if I am correct, cannot be unlocked and rooted yet....at least I have not seen a root procedure.

fwiw, personally, I will never accept the update, there are plenty of roms with plenty of tweaks available to use:) ---just my opinion. Then again, I'm not one who does the whole OTA thing.

It is totally up to you, like I said, unrooting/accepting the OTA? Not sure if you can root.....at least yet until the amazing dev's find a way:)

Is there a way to stop the S3 from announcing the update? I know this could be done on older devices, because I did it.

Edit -- I found in another thread to use TIBU to freeze SDM, and that will stop the update notifications. :)

Help me out here. What is SDM? I just want to get rid of the update notification until I have time to switch to a custom 4.3 Rom.

Hi. I did not have any idea what it was either, but if you use the filter function in Titanium Backup, (TIBU) and enter SDM it will find it for you. It's full name listed in mine is SDM 1.0.

I had TIBU freeze it, and have seen no signs of the update notification since.

I just searched with Root Explorer and found it to reside in /system/app/ as "SDM.apk", so it seems it is an actual application. You should still find it there after freezing it, if you wanted to look.
