    Hey!

I'm not crazy about the change to stock Gallery after the recent MF1 update. Its ver. 1.1.30682. and the old one is 1.0.19. Using Titanium Backup I selected to restore the old version and even though it said it was completed, it didn't take. I rebooted. I disabled the new one and tried to restore the old one. I uninstalled and then tried to install the older one but it just hung up TB. The message when uninstalling was that I would have to install the same app for the same ROM.

What am I missing, and is there another way to make it happen? As a system app I don't know if I can do it. I guess I could change the names of the .apk? The app in the System/app folder has seemingly 4 files: SecGallery2_Galaxy.apk and *.odex. Then SecGallery2.apk and *.odex.

I've found 2 in the TB backup folder with the date of the backup for the old one with a different name: ".......gallery3d-.....date-number." Then there's a couple with ...gallery3d- and a long number. I can't exactly match the names.

    I have nandroid backups.

I installed Quickpic and am checking it out but I liked the old stock Gallery though I don't have that many pics.

When you backed up the Gallery in the first place (the old version), was it a system app? Or a user app?

That's a good question. I'm not sure how I'd know. I'm assuming it was, but...

I haven't got into the my nandroid backup yet to look at what's in there because TB only showing my last one which is after the update. Am gonna try to get in there and have a look right now, though the Wimbledon is distracting me on my DVR at the moment. :p

Edit :TB is puking on the backup with the older file on it at the moment. Finding a different way to get in there. 7zip also ain't helping.

Just thinking out loud here..what if you would freeze the Gallery, pull the gallery version of choice from a rom.zip and pushed it to your /system/app?

Okay, here's what I did, which may be similar to what you're suggesting:

I was able to explore and extract my nandroid made before the update with Nandroid Manager. I couldn't do it with TB for some reason. But, I found that TB had in fact restored the old one into the system/apps directory, but the new one is in there with a slightly different name. THAT'S the one that shows up in the app drawer.

I moved the current one out and changed the name of the old one and the .odex file to the same as the current one. But, it ain't showin' up in the Apps drawer! When I select it in ES File it wants to install it, but it errors out.

TB shows it to be uninstalled, still, and if I try to restore it locks up.

So that's where I'm at! I've got the old file in there with the name of the new one but it don't work.

Actually, it's not quite what you said but I'm not sure how that would be different, since the old file was put in there by TB in the first place. I did freeze it and even unistall it with TB and couldn't install the old one.

What rom are you running? Is your nandroid backup an ODEX'ed rom like the one you are running? Is it the same as far as AOSP vs. TW?

Anyways, even if you forget about what I just said, did you set the permissions the same as what all the other .apk's and .odex files are at? then reboot.

Is your r/o set to r/w in ES file explorer? The /system should be set to r/w in order for files to get written/moved to/pasted to, /system/app.

I'm using the stock JB TW 4.1.2 updated from MB1 to MF1 just the other day. I expect there both ODEX'ed, though I'm not sure about that. Maybe not? The new one is ODEX'd
The permissions were the same as all of the others in that directory: rw- r-- r--. There's execute on the directory. I've rebooted.

I didn't know I could do that but I got around it using Terminal Emulator. Thanks for the heads up on ES File Explorer.

Wow, I totally missed your post here
I've never messed with ODEX'ed roms etc...then again, I don't flash many roms tbh. :p
I'm on CleanRom which is de-odex'ed....sometimes that confuzzles me :)
