So fist off I am brand new to the android world, as in like 3 days. I've had an iPhone since they first came out so I finally realized that jailbreaking an iPhone is to make it do what the androids already do.

Anyways my issue is I bought a used s5 and it was locked to verizon. I took it to my carrier (at&t) and they were able to "semi" unlock it. Meaning it works except I'm not on LTE speed, I'm on some other unheard of speed that apparently is slower.

So what I'm looking for is how do I fully wipe Verizon with all their logos and settings and get my LTE back? Do I need to do this rooting thing that I just learned about? Basically like jailbreaking iphones?

    Thank you for your time!

I guess you'd have to install an AT&T rom, but have no help as to which one. Maybe try posting in the ATT section.

Far as I no you wont have LTE . I thought it was a gsm patch out for the s5 . seems not to be. LTE wouldn't work in global mode either.

To answer your question about rooting, YES you most definitely are going to want to, and need to root your device. That needs to be your first step to unlocking much more of this little monster's capabilities. You're going to need root access, to do what I mention further down, for you to get the fastest speed possible with an AT&T SIM. Now, to the network stuff. I'm almost 100% sure AT&T didn't unlock the phone even 1% Lol. All they would have done is switch it to Global Mode in network settings and add their APN for data and MMS. There is no kind of wiping that will get LTE service with an AT&T SIM in the SM-G900V Galaxy S5. The best you'll be able to get is HSPA+ because unfortunately the phone doesn't support the band/frequency combination that AT&T uses for their LTE. Nothing can be done about this because it's strictly a hardware thing. At least it's capable of getting the HSPA+ speeds (which is 4G) with AT&T. The 900V does support the band/frequency combo that T-Mobile uses for LTE. I'm currently using T-Mobile and get their full data speeds. The same process is used to get HSPA+ with an AT&T SIM. To get Tmo's LTE and AT&T's HSPA+ capability with the 900V, you'll need to use this guide.

I know it says it's for the Note 3, but it does work on the Galaxy S5 as well. The guide is going to tell you how to enable the LTE Band 4, which is needed for Tmo and AT&T. It's not too awfully hard to get your phone up and going with this. I hope this helps you, and saves you from trying any kinds of fruitless wipes, while trying to get better network speeds. Now, you can remove most of the Verizon crap to free up a lot of storage if you'd like, I know I did. :) Just Google what Verizon apps are safe to remove from the Galaxy S5 and you'll find many guides on the subject.
