Walked into a Verizon reseller here in NYC, Midtown area. Asked about the Nexus. Guy said not only can't they sell it but Verizon told them to immediately ship the phones back. He showed me the packed box full of phones waiting to be picked up. What's up with that?

If true, we aren't getting this phone this year, if ever. I think I'm done with it.

Holy smokes .....I'm basically in shock at how Verizon has just basically screwed the launch of this phone up terribly!

Take this with a grain of salt. Not sure of the accuracy of this. I can only tell you my experience from today. I walked into the VZW store at Brier Creek Raleigh NC. The regional manager was there. I asked him about it and his response was that they were not releasing it until they can find the reason for the 4G LTE outage. Once that was resolved and they could find the root cause, then it would get released.

I wonder if between him saying that (there were two of us there) and your info that the Nexus is the reason for the outage? I do not know and there is no truth to anything we are getting.

If it is not out next week, I think I am switching to the iPhone and Android can go to the wayside. I need a phone, nothing worth a $0.01 is available for Android. I will go back to VZW tomorrow and get a phone as long as the let me upgrade within 2-3 months to a phone I deserve and not what they make me settle for.

I really feel the same way. Disgusted. I seriously thought about switching to iPhone. Hardest thing for me to get over is the 3.5" screen size though.

If they don't get the GN out soon (before Xmas) I may have to go back to the iPhone as well. I tried the RAZR and returned it. I really wanted to go Android, but there just isn't a single phone out for VZW that I would want.

GuYs ...OP i'm sorry but i say this is pure rumor and it would be ludicrous for all of the phones to be sent back. That is not happening. Samsung/Google/VZW would eat so much of a loss if they canceled this device that it would hurt really bad. You have to think...accessories are also already out for this device. A lot of those would have the be scrapped. Yeah some of the stuff would still be compatible with the GSM version. I'm telling you this is not happening imo.

OP i'm not saying your lying but maybe the guy at the store was yanking your chain? If they were sending product back the internet would be swamped with reports of that right now.

Yea I agree with Trophy! I can't see them scraping this launch altogether, but I do think there is some internal issues with the device (hmm..First Bionic ring a bell)
Hard to say because vzw is being so mum about this, and in this day and age being mum makes the interweb run wild.

If I had to really guess, I'd say the Nexus isn't something that's on vzw's Top Priority list at the moment. They're still focused on Razr sales, and looking towards selling a boat load of these new Moto tablets that are hitting stores.

I still don't buy the 4g argument. If I go to the store today, they won't sell me the nexus because of the 4g network but won't have a problem selling me a razr or rezound?

The only thing I can see is that Verizon sees this as a large amount of customers that may switch from a 3G to LTE phone and the added stress could repeat the outage they had.

My thought is if the it was hardware related it must be with the radio since the GN is already out in Europe and just got released in Canada.

I just got one rep that was more forthcoming with info than others. The devices are not being sent back. He did state there was an issue but would not confirm if it was hardware or software related. He said they have them in store, the store models cannot be activated (probably for the same reason they are not selling them), and that it will be at least next week. He said definitely not over the weekend and not until Thursday 12/15 at the earliest.

This is all with a grain of salt. We all know that many VZW associates are less knowledgeable than the general public.

That's cool and all, but what about the 100,000 customers that will come onto the network today when they buy Xyboards? :D

Your second point is about the only thing that makes sense at this point. I think we can reasonably rule out most other issues- but then I've thought all along that we may run into issues as a result of our version having a 4G radio.

Your right I forgot about he Xyboards being released today. I highly doubt they're expecting them to be as popular as the GN though. There's so many variables I guess we won't know what's really going on until an official announcement.

    Sarcastic figure is sarcastic. :p

I bet they won't sell 1% of that figure by the end of the weekend. That albatross is a serious lulzfest.

... and I have (and really like) my Xoom WiFi. As they say, though... there's an ass for every seat.

I went to a third-party VZW dealer today and they have the phone (in box, ready to be sold). The guy who told you they're being forced to ship back their stock either lied or doesn't know what he's talking about.

I'm starting to think that the box he saw was a shipment in not out and the rep just didn't have the accurate info about it.

Not much to go on, but I heard from a very reliable source that the GN isn't working well with their LTE network. If this *is* the problem, I wonder why it wasn't discovered sooner...and I hope they can resolve the problem quickly and without too much difficulty.

I would hope something that major would have been caught during testing. IMHO I'm thinking the delay is either Google Wallet or the unrelated 4G outage they had Wednesday/Thursday.

This just popped up in the main thread. The reason for Gnex launch delay is google wallet/Isis thing according to Steven's third source.

I think that sounds right -- the guy I deal with is honest and doesn't get caught up in all this new phone coming out crap, and he said he had a bunch. Your suggestion sounds like it makes the most sense.

I think the LTE network was the problem -- there was an outage for a few days and the Nexus isn't out yet -- which means the likely problem is with the network and not the handset.

I think it's the latter. If it is indeed Google Wallet -- that they all somehow forgot about until two weeks after planned launch -- it is kind of strange that it all-of-a-sudden happened right when a network outage occurred. Coincidences don't happen, so doing the math, I'd figure it was the network issue and not Google Wallet.

Like I mentioned in that thread (I think) and just above, it would be something if they managed to gloss over the whole Google Wallet issue and left it unaddressed completely 2+ weeks after launch and only now decided to address it delaying the launch of their first 4G Google handset while coincidentally a network outage conveniently occurred, making the whole delay a much more sensible proposition.

My first concerns over the Nexus were originally that the phone itself had issues, and that Verizon had really botched this whole thing. But the more I think about it and the more I read -- especially the whole "The Butler did it" (aka it's Google Wallet causing the hold-up) it makes a lot more sense to me that the problem is the network has been acting up and they want to hold off until the problem is cured. I'm sure the Google Wallet thing was put to bed long ago, and while it's a lot nicer to suggest the Google Wallet showdown is the cause of the delay, it's prolly a lot closer to the truth that Verizon's 4G network is the culprit. Not a faulty handset, not some massive trick Verizon's playing on us greedy Droid geeks, but simply a network problem that could, if left ignored, make the whole iPhone Antenna screw-up resemble child's play.

If it smells like sh*t, looks like sh*t and tastes like sh*t, it's a good bet it's sh*t.

The problem with that line of thought is that they still released XYboard LTE tablet despite this recent 4G outage debacle. they are not holding back Razr, rezound sales either because of 4G outage. It's the network issue, not the phone issue probably. So it doesn't make much sense to me. At least they could have started online order today.

So if it's not Google wallet thing (I agree that it was settled a while ago probably), it's either supply issue or their playing on us with favoring Droid line.
