1. Are you ready for the Galaxy S20? Here is everything we know so far!

[Verizon] Not sure where to go after deferring VRLG7 update.

    Hello everyone,

I've had a Galaxy S3 since they were first shipped out back in April I believe? Everything's been good so far but I'm at a bit of a dilemma. Back when the VRLG7 update was pushed, I deferred it by renaming the odex file as my phone was rooted and I had noticed people were getting the "Not Authorized" screen or lost root/their unlocked bootloader as a result of the update.

I tried to flash a ROM onto it after the fact and found myself nearly bricked-- I ended up having to use Odin in order to restore my phone and it's been working fine ever since.

However, I'm not sure what my options are at this point for either getting an updated nandroid for S3 stock, or for flashing some sort of different ROM for it.

    I'd appreciate any suggestions, thanks!

    Welcome ayv26!
So did you accept the update? If so what version are you on? JB 4.1.1?

I haven't accepted it. I'm still on ICS 4.0.4 baseband VRLF2. I'd at least like to be able to update to some JB stock build (rooted/unlocked bootloader) for the GS3.

e: But I'm not sure if not accepting the previous update will cause problems, nor am I 100% positive about the status of my bootloader.

If you are on 4.04, you can root with the method in the sticky at the top of the forum.
I have not used that method, so I couldn't tell you how easy or hard it is.

I have used the method for JB 4.1.1 found here...it was EZ--

As far as your bootloader status, I have yet to find out how to get that:p

Now, for what it's worth, if I were you, and I don't know if this will fudge something up (I dont see why it would), accept the OTA update to JB 4.1.1. and root with the method I linked.

I would assume you are un-rooted at this time yes?

I am 100% rooted already. Having done a quick bit of research, I'm also fairly certain that my bootloader is unlocked.
