I switched to Verizon from sprint this past weekend (got tired of unlimited data that I couldn't use due to signal). On the sprint version of the gs3 there was a brightness slider on the pulldown menu. This doesn't exist on the Verizon version. Is this because of a wildly different firmware version? Or is Verizon behind the ball on updates that include that? Any help is helpful as always.

For what ever reason, the last couple updates from Verizon has not included this feature. I don't think it's because Verizon is behind the ball (It could be though) but rather Verizon has decided not to include this feature.

It was a feature I liked a lot...also I just noticed that the WiFi toggle is missing from the same pull down, I can use widgets for these tasks...just came as a surprise when I noticed it.

The latest Jelly bean 4.1.2 supposedly has these at the top of the screen in the notification area as part of stock Android. I am not certain if the Jellybean that was just released today is 4.1.1 or 4.1.2. But it will be coming again shortly when you get 4.1.2.

In the mean time you can add it via some apps.

Any idea when Verizon will send down jelly bean to these phones?

No date has been release from Verizon. Samsung released a "In the coming months" statement last week.

My Nexus 7 Tablet is running JB and it does not have this.

I had this functionality on the sprint version...it came after the last Samsung update. It showed up as part of the pull down menu.

I hear what you are saying about the brightness slider missing. Sucks, because the screen is too dim as is.

My advice, forget what you know about the native auto brightness. It constantly adjusts and messes with your eyes. Download "Lux Auto Brightness" and give the free version a shot. By default, it only adjusts as you open the phone. It will have adjusted by the time you've swiped the lock screen. And that's it. You are good to go. It is better than a slider in a pull down bar.

I hate the native auto brightness...that is why I was using the slider :). Lux is pretty good, thank you for the heads up. I will use the free version the next few days and may buy the full version.

No Verizon IS behind the ball.

After 2 OTAs they still haven't fixed the incorrect color mapping table for the notification light on the US Galaxy S3s. I think all other carriers have fixed that by now. Clearly that's just a flat out bug, not a feature decision.
