Root [Verizon] wifi tether speed cap?

So i feel like my wifi tethering speed is capped for some reason.

whether i use foxfi, wifi tether for root users, or the built in one with the synergy rom 1.5 i cannot get greater than 3.0 mbit down and 1mbit up. even though when i run speedtest.net i get 16/8mbit on the phone.

this is in a strictly 4g area.

does anyone else have a similar problem??

EDITED TO ADD:
After some testing, this limitation seems to apply only to PC's. I do not get this speed limitation when tethering another phone or tablet.

I've seen people mention that. IIRC, VZW calls it "network optimization" flagged on your account. What is your data usage/mo.?

If they are throttling you and they won't accommodate you, you can complain to the FCC for a block C violation; VZW is not allowed to limit access on their 4G network.

I still have unlimited data but I only use it around 1 to 2 GB per month if that. And that is only since I had 4G.

I don't think it is Verizon throttling because I get up to 40 Mbit from the phone.

What bothers me is that I know I got higher-speed s previously through Wi-Fi tether for root. On the same phone.

I guess we need to wait for the "Wifi Tether" project folks to create a profile for the Galaxy S3 - from the mods it looks like GSM and CDMA are different, I'm selfishly hoping they work on the CDMA first (Verizon user)

I heard (xda) that the entitlement check passes unconditionally since the FCC smackdown; you may wish to try that.

i use the built in one provided by att and i have no issues. and my speeds are well above 3mbs. there more like 20-30mbs:)

Would love some more input on this.

I only get <2-3M/s with Foxfi. Was assuming it was just due to the app and was going to root just get a faster wifi tether; but if it isn't much better with root, I may not go to the trouble. On the phone speed test I get 18-20M/sec.

okay just did some more testing... when i tether using foxfi and wifi tether (when i can get it to work - seems i have to change the ssid everytime) to my ipad i get full 4g speed...sometimes even faster than the phone speedtest app

it seems to be specific to computers/laptops. i tested this on an older imb thinkpad and new lenovo thinkpad. and am getting the same speed limitations i had before. im starting to think something is purposly limiting the device onces it knows its a pc...

Has anyone been able to get foxfi or any other tethering app to work on cyanogenmod 10 for Verizon version of galaxy s3? I really like cyanogenmod, but tethering is important to me. Also I lost the ability of touch screen zoom on the camera.

Use the built in one. 15.8 down and 7.6 up for me. Just go into settings -> more and click the tethering and portable hotspot selection and go from there

Don't you have to have a tethering plan from your carrier to do that? I tried that once with my old phone and got a little popup message asking if I wanted to change my plan.

Not with CM10. It is built in and does not use the canned Touchwiz Verizon hotspot entitlement check.
