Version update this morning

When I picked up my T-Mobile SGS2 this morning it said there was a version upgrade available, and offered to install it. I did so, and now I have Android 2.3.6, kernel 2.6.35.11, and build GINGERBREAD.UVKL1.

After rebooting it popped up a screen asking for my usual address in order to enable WIFI calling.

With the battery at 42%. just now I powered it off, then plugged in the charger cable. It immediately booted the phone, so the upgrade did not fix that bug.

I haven't seen anything else exciting.

I read about the update will un-root rooted phone. I don't want the update... but it will keep popping up every 1 day.

I was rooted with Eagle's Blood flashed but decided to do the update. I then re-rooted (easy) and just downloaded NoBloat Free to get rid of the bloatware. I really like the WiFi Calling feature and everything seems to be working well. Looking forward to something from CM though.

I live in florida and my phone still hasn't shown anything about an update yet. Did it pop up automatically for you? I want wifi-calling >_<.

I leave the phone plugged in overnight in my study, because I don't to hear it ring in the middle of the night. As I am drinking my morning coffee I unplug it, check it for messages, and put it in my pocket. The upgrade was just there, waiting for me to say yes.

I don't know how they decide who gets the upgrade first, but I assume they stagger the timing so as not to overload bandwidth.

I just installed the update myself. After I clicked yes I thought that I should have popped over here first to investigae it, lol. It took my music player off my home screen and when I went to find it in the app tray, saw that it installed another music player app... Anyone know what the improvements were, if any?

I got a SIM card error for the WiFi calling though, phone said that I needed to call Customer Care or visit a Tmobile store to upgrade my SIM card... Don't forsee that hapening in the next few days...

John Jason, Can you swap that phone out? I haven't gotten this upgrade but none of the people I know personally with this phone have that rebooting problem. It doesn't sound like software. Forgive me if you've discussed it all before, but If it doesn't work I'd have them give me a new one. Again, sorry if you've already gone the replacement rout or can't for some reason.

OK, saw your original post. Yes, my phone did this when I first recieved it. Plugged it into the wall to charge it and it came on to set up. I have charged it off a few times since without a problem. I try to reboot the phone once a day, something I never did with my old phone, which I used to leave on for months at a time. I do usually leave it on when it is charging overnight though. So perhaps it is something in the factory software related to initial start-up.

I also updated mine, but I don't see anything different, online articles say that the S2 is supposed to update to ICS 4.0, along with a lot of cool features but I don't see anything....

First, the problem has been discussed in this forum. Although most people don't have the rebooting issue, there are others who have reported it, so I am not alone. It could be caused by a lot of possibilities, combination of apps installed, hardware failure, etc.

Second, I was already a T-Mobile customer, but on a prepaid plan. I found a local guy who had a brand new in the box SGS2 that he wanted to sell for $480. That was $50 cheaper than T-Mobile, so I bought it. Other than the restarting when plugged in issue, I have no other problems. I'm not sure if T-Mobile would swap it out since I did not buy it directly from them. And I have no insurance, although there is also the possibility of Samsung warranty. But the latter would probably require proof that it is hardware related.

The long and the short of it is that it is not a big enough deal for me to bother with the potential hassles. It does charge up fine. It would charge more quickly if I could charge it when turned off, but since I charge overnight it has plenty of time, even if it stays running. And if I forget to charge it I have a second battery that I can use.

What method did you use to root your phone after you installed the update? Because i'm not sure if the methods for rooting 2.3.5 will work on 2.3.6, and i don't want to make a mistake....

I also got the update message this morning and went through with it. Took about 10 minutes on wifi, or less, I was half asleep. After reading this thread I also noticed the new music icon, but it didn't remove the one I had before that works with Google music. What I did notice was the "Swipe Screen to Unlock" message on the main lock screen. That wasn't there before.

uhhh.. ok, I guess I should have deleted that rather than add the part saying I saw what had been previously written.

As for the update, I finally got it in NY, but my friend, who received his phone a week before I did is still waiting (10 miles from me). Seems much smother, stock lock screen is easier to get out of the way, new music player, seems more simplified for navigation but I haven't really messed with it other than that. WiFi calling is working great. Time to root, cheers!

That "Swipe screen to unlock" banner will be gone shortly.

WIFI calling doesn't work with my BlueTooth headset.
