Help Very low headphone volume?

MattMJB0188

Newbie
Just picked up a shiny new Note 3 and noticed that the output volume is extremely low. On the 5S the volume is so much louder, its almost making me want to return it for this. Anyone notice this? Of course this issue can be fixed by flashing a custom rom or volume mod, but we all know that trips the knox counter.

I don't see any problem with the volume on the Note 3. There are four different volumes to be set (Media, Ringtone, Notifications and System). Be sure to check in your Settings/Sound/Volume and make sure that the volume you're talking about is set correctly. The volume rocker adjusts the sound for the current source you are listening to. You have to have to be listening to media to adjust the media volume, or you can adjust it in the system settings.

I was referring to the media volume. It is very low compared to the iPhone 5/5S, S3, and even S4.

The media volume should be similar between the devices you referenced if you are comparing media from the same source on all (something like Pandora). If not, you should take it back to where you purchased it and compare it to another Note 3. Also suggest you test it on Bluetooth and wired headphones.

Agree. Mine is loud even on the car bluetoothed through my stereo

I have compared it to several Note 3's today, and they're all the same. I don't think the device is defective. When the device is plugged in through my auxiliary cable going to my car stereo, the volume is also low.

I guess it comes down to personal preference. But I really don't think the headphone volume goes very loud. I have tried with several different headphones now.

You might be onto something MattMJB0188.

I've had a similar intermittent experience w/BLUETOOTH,but,strangely enough, only one of several of my B/T's does this.

Is this also w/a headset, wired or BLUETOOTH,or,w/the phone's speaker & car audio only?

I haven't used Bluetooth yet on the device, but anytime I plug a pair of headphones in, or an auxiliary cable into my car, I get low volume. I wouldn't say there is an issue, I'd just say it doesn't go very loud on stock.

When I used my note 3 on my treadmill I noticed the volume was low and I tried to turn it up again and something popped up about the high volume being a safety concern and if I wanted to over ride it ..I clicked okay and it turned up a bit

Yes, and then once you go as loud as you can, its still not very loud.

Does it have separate volume settings? I'm just curious, because my android phone has volume settings for different things (music, ringtones, etc.).

Your listening to music on spotify or anywhere, and you turn up the volume, and it the loudest it goes is actually not very loud. That' what I was saying.

iPhones just sound better. Maybe it's because they started out with a media player before they introduced their phones.

I don't own a Note 3 (have used one) but have the Note 1 and 2. The volume isn't great on these devices.

Nothing to do with needing Q-tips or such like.

Hopefully the audio will improve if a Note 4 is released.

To the OP I believe what you're experiencing regarding volume. Yours isn't the first post about it. Even when other sites started doing their reviews the biggest disappointment was the Note 3 volume being too low even when turned all the way up.

Hopefully something can be done about it via an update. I know a lot of people love the phone but there are some things that are highly important to me and volume is one of them.

Maybe Samsung does it that way due to fear of lawsuits. Whereas apple doesn't have to worry about that since they are the ones doing the suing. hmmmmm

gotcha....I've never used the headphone jack. my devices are all bluetooth.

Yup, I do believe there are previous threads about this somewhere waaaay back. The 3 is definitely not as loud as the 2 when I plug it into my car to play music. There are times where I have to turn my car stereo volume up twice as much as I had to with the previous phone.

There was a thread in the Galaxy Note 3 forums over at XDA with a mod that allows you to raise your volume higher than the stock max.
There were options for slightly louder, moderately louder, and very louder.

I wonder if that's the same mod for the Note 2- I never could find it again; but it's not like I looked real hard. LOL!
My phone is so loud- that mod made a night & day difference.

mine is a little low as well. when i run it through my car stereo i can turn both it and the system all the way up. if i did that with my iphone my neighbors would call the cops.
