Help Very new to Android and Very Lost

I am new to smartphones and android but I am loving it all. I have been reading all the threads in this forum and have tried LPP and ADW but they seem to lag my phone down. I did not remove all the widgets before installing either one. I am trying to customize my X the way I would like without making it slower but I am lost as to what I need to do. I tried watching videos on settings for best performance ect. but I'm not sure of all the apps I need to change the widget icons or switch back and forth.

I like the feeds on my screen and have it set to new tips and tricks on this forum and motorola tips n tricks but when i downloaded either LPP or ADW i wasnt sure how to put that widget back onto my screen.

Can someone please help me.....
