very new to this

hello all i am very new to this i have been trying to root my sgh-i847 i copied the zip file to my sd but i am not seeing it when i get to the recovery menu after holding the vol up and power button i cant find it anywhere??? any help would be great thgank you

I am not familiar with that device but I can try to help here.
When in recovery, is there some kind of option to "flash zip from sd card" or "install zip from sd" or something like that?
Is your device the Samsung Rugby Smart?

Very easy. Download update.zip then boot into recovery mode and select install from SD then select downloads. Update.zip should be visible. Select it then install. You should then reboot and have root.
