When I'm in a call I noticed that the sound quality is terrible. the person's voice has this low ringing over it the entire time, and even just when it is ringing to call someone it sounds like crap... are all of the units like this or did i luck out? I just picked it up today and have time to go exchange it... it sounds very bad.. my blackberry's had better sound quality.. i'm not talking about speaker phone btw.

I just got mine last night. Sounds very staticy whenever the person on the other end talks. I was wondering the same thing. If maybe I have a lemon, if they are all like this, or maybe theres some sort of software update or setting solution I don't know about.

They must all be like this. I've had mine for 2 weeks now and I love the phone but dread having to use the "phone" feature! Pretty sad! The call quality is probably one of the worst I've ever experienced with the phone.

Now that I see I'm not the only one with the problem I'll be calling T-Mobile soon. I didn't pay the money I did to have a phone that sucks when used as a phone!

Only issues I have on a call is the speaker phone feature isnt loud enough but voices sound fine to me.

    Hi guys,

I am also having poor call quality. Have any of you returned your devices for a new one? If so, was it any better?

    Thanks a lot!

I've had my Sensation for a week now and have been lurking since I got it and found the forums, and I'm having not only the same in-call sound quality problems but other audio-related issues as well. The speakerphone is quiet and tinny sounding, music played through the speaker is better quality but still quiet, and a few callers have commented that I sound hollow and tinny on their end as well. I'm new to the Sensation and smartphones in general and chose the pizazz of this phone over the speed of the G2X, but the "phone" part of "smartphone" is a deal-breaker for me. To the more experienced users, does this seem like an issue with the quality of the speakers themselves or a software bug that could be fixed with an update? It sounds like an exchange is likely going to have the same problems, so should I just bite the bullet and get the G2X (which I have used a friend's and the call quality is great) before the exchange date is up or just wait it out and see if HTC releases an update, if that's even possible? I really like everything else about the device (and am way more impressed with Android than with the "i" devices I've tried in the past) so I'd really prefer to keep it.

It could be a combination of both hardware and software, causing the poor audio quality. Mainly I think the earpiece and speaker volume are too low, for calls however there is a bit of distortion at the higher volume levels. In that sense, I think its a hardware limitation, especially given their "tinny" quality.

That said, I had a few calls now to people on CDMA carriers, and the calls had a bit of a compressed sound (granted calls across platforms tend to not sound "great"), but again, biggest complaint is that I had call volume on max, and could barely hear my friend while in a mildly loud restaurant. As far as any the codecs/compression being used, they should generally be dictated by signal strength and tower congestion, and could be overridden by software settings, but my vote is that most audio quality issues are caused by hardware limitations.

    FWIW, colnago = VoIP engineer.

I've had it for less than a week and everyone tells me that on occasion I sound very muffled and far away. They always ask "Did you put me on speaker?" It's very worrisome because other than that the phone is amazing. I don't want to give it up but poor call quality is a deal breaker no matter how many bells and whistles it has. Voices on my end are quite low and it can get frustrating if there is ambient noise around you to add to it.

I gotmy current device on a warranty exchange. All the problems I had been having are fixed, but whenever I talk to someone on the phone they have a hard time hearing me. This sucks because I'm expecting a call back about a new job soon!!

I've noticed the same thing on my phone. It's very distorted and cuts out every other word. It doesn't happen during every call but it happens often enough for me to want to throw the phone on the ground

It truly is the worst phone I have ever had...Speaker and call quality wise

I bought my phone on the 9th and am just outside the exchange window :( so now I have to pay 20 dollars for a "warranty fee" because I actually want to talk on my phone, isn't that what phones are for? I love all the bells and whistles on the phone, and the speed is amazing but if I just wanted a toy I would have got a Android pad.

 I already don't like T-Mobile but I'm married to them for 2 years argh

Do you have insurance? If you do, it's only $5 to exchange the phone.

If not, go to a T-Mo store and demonstrate the problems you are having with the phone. If they can see that the call quality honestly sucks on your handset they might wave fees entirely. They've done this to me in the past.

Good Luck to anyone returning their phone!

I've now had six HD2's with T-Mobile and am fortunately nearing the end of my contract. The sound quality was the only issue with the phone and is easily the worst of any phone I've ever owned. Sound quality improved when I switched to running Android on it but still is very poor. Speaker phone is unusable due to distortion and handset quality extremely variable. Headset quality is ok leading me to believe it's down to cheap and nasty hardware. I like Android just fine but won't be getting another HTC. Only plus side I can see is that the Samsung Galaxy S and S2 is even worse. Don't really want an iphone but they do seem to have rather better quality hardware.

MyTouch4g has great sound and great features. Don't know why they don't sell it any more. Was thinking about getting the Sensation, but now I'm not so sure :(
