Hi all. A brand newby here with a pretty easy (I think) app request.

I just want to read a string of up to 22 characters via bluetooth and display it on the screen. More strings will come in, could be in half a second or so, and these should just stack up on screen and scroll the screen when it is full. I suppose you could call it a terminal program.
Once the strings are scrolled off screen, they are deleted. I don't think there needs to be any storage. If it's on screen you can see it, if it's scrolled off, it's gone.
Doesn't need to send anything, only needs to read incoming text.

    That's it in a nutshell.
    Any ideas?? and or takers??

    Thanks,

I presume you want to read data off a device that use Bluetooth to connect to the smart-phone? Then where to get the device for testing the app? Also depending on the device data, there could be control bytes which is not meant to displayed on screen isn't it? This would depend very much on the device data bytes transmission format. How to develop a generic app to anticipate the endless possibilities on the data bytes transmission format?

Most likely it is a custom app rather than a generic app that is develop to understand certain specific device.

I make the device that currently sends the data (pure text string of up to 22 characters ending with CR/LF no other control characters at all.)
This device currently sends via serial TTL to a 24 x 4 line LCD and works perfectly.
My thought is to add a serial to bluetooth adaptor to feed an android smartphone or pad.
(I will set it up on my Galaxy I9000 and Galaxy pad 10.1 7510 I think is my model.)
My target market are always asking if using a smartphone/pad is possible and I cannot see why it would not be too hard.
And yes, I do think a custom app rather than a generic app would be a better option.
And besides, I would rather sell the entire package rather than just the hardware and tell everyone they then have to buy their own generic app. I much prefer that my package will be a totally working package with no problems with complaints that "it won't work with xxxx app"
So to my way of thinking, this should be a simple request, and hopefully not too expensive to develop.

    Thanks,

It reads some data from an external device and then sends out some selected items in a formatted string to the android viua bluetooth. I just want a simple app to display the string when it comeas in. Purely a testing function. I have tested the BTterminal app from play store and that works, but there are lots of functions on thbat app that are not necessary.
Each string is up to 22 characters and will finish with a CR & LF. It would be3 nice to have an app that is specific to my device so I can offer a full package.
Still a little bit secretive until it is up and running. Hope you understand.

Do you have any design requirements or preferences for the appearance?

The key thing is how do you do testing when you do not have the actual device to test with? The best I can think of is you may need to write an external software to simulate the device sending data of 22 bytes to your android smart-phone. This task is pretty time consuming at least to a hobbyist programmer for instance.

I might be able to do something very quickly. If you pm me EXACTLY what you need, how it should look, etc, or email me at colmseale1@gmail.com. If you are going to sell this app as part of a package, I would want some compensation for my work. A one off payment through google store is enough.
