arc media can play it, but the phone HAS to be able to OC to atleast 806 for it to play correctly, as that app depends completely on the CPU speed. other wise the audio is about 6 or 7 seconds ahead of the video and is horrible to watch

Convert the video to a useable format. Simple solution.

I use a converter called SUPER, convert them to a format your player uses, make the resolution 800x480 so it will bring down the size of the file and lower the bitrate.

Ok can you post a link to SUPER and .mp4 works good right?

HandBrake is one of the better apps for recoding vid files. handles most input formats and outputs mp4 and is cross platform. Win/Lin/Mac.

Also. .m4v is still the mp4 container, its just meant to signify a video file. Rock Player plays both on my ally quite well. if your file won't play in rockplayer, its most likely in a resolution the phone can't handle and will need to be recoded to the resolution mentioned above.

just because it is an MP4 does not mean the ipod or anything else can play it. MP4 is only a container. A way of interlacing audio/video/subtitles etc. Typically the video codec is H264 and an audio codec of AAC. But it doesnt have to be.
Comparison of container formats - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Your file can contain any of the audio/video codecs listed X264, H264, H263, Quicktime etc etc. So if it doesn't play then either the audio or video codec is not supported for being in an mp4 or incorrectly encoded or muxed. Could also be encoded with codec options that just can't be decoded fast enough for a low horsepower processor like your phone. or just not possible to be supported . Example Xbox 360 can't play back H264 video encoded at a higher level than 4.1 etc. File could be encoded at a variable bitrate, or too high of a bitrate. Requirements for playback on every device varies.

When it doesnt work, recode it. if it doesn't recode then its probably corrupt. Handbrake has an "ipod" output setting which should work.
