Can anyone using this comment on whether the volume is controlled by the phone("headphone out") or is it a typical line-out style output? I want to use this in my car which already has a RCA to 3.5mm adapter but I'd rather go with the video-out cable if it sounds better.

    Thanks, Kevin

You control the media volume, and it is proportionately put out to the car/stereo/whatever. I don't go over 80% volume on the phone though, because the sound starts to get distorted on some frequencies. If you want it louder, just turn up your stereo.

I'm not sure if using the video-out cable will work for just audio though; you might as well just use the 3.5mm audio jack since the audio quality won't be much different, if at all.
